newsroom. she is in contact with investigators and has the latest on the manhunt now under irway. the sheriff's office says it is still an active search and remain cautious and lock their doors as they look for the killers. the 911 call came in around noon yesterday. a 12-year-old boy discovered an intruder. he ran away and the boy made a terrifying discovery, his 9-year-old sister was gravely stabbed. >> this is terrible. you know, what can i say about it? it is a tragedy. >> the girl was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. mum tim law enforcement agencies searched the landscape. it includes tall grass and many places for potential places for suspects to hide. they want homeowners to lock doors and watch out for the man

who is considered armed and dangerous. >> we are doing a house to house search. and we are searching in attics and storage sheds. he describes the intruder as white or latino man. he is 6 feet tall and last seen wearing a long sleeved shirt and blue pantses. they have taken to social media. some mentioned suspicious sightings including a prowler in the area. they plan to release more information this morning. something we are working to learn, is where are the parents during the attack? we will bring you the latest details and we have calls into the sheriff's office right now. in pittsburgh, they have a man who tried to kidnap a girl. he is described as a white man in his 30s and last seen pittsburgh a green shirt and blue jeans. the man took the girl as she played in the front yard of her

home at 1:00 p.m. on friday afternoon. he got 50 feet from the house and dropped the girl in the bushes after her mother yelled after him. the girl was not hurt. there will be good news for passengers and airport employees. alex savidge is live at sfo and we are learning about the deal with the air traffic controllers? alex? >> reporter: after a week of flight delays here in the bay area and across the country, things will get back to normal after the faa furloughs. i checked in with the duty manager. right now, they are seeing some delays between 15 and 30 minutes. that is due to some runway construction here at sfo and not do to staffing levels up in the tower. you remember earlier this week, they quan to furlough air traffic controllers across the country. that meant the planes were

taking off and landing less often. that back up was aggravated for passengers. they were the result of sequestration. across the board federal spending cuts. but yesterday, the faa announced it was suspending all employee furloughs after they rushed through a bill. passengers i talked to are pleased congress has worked out a deal. >> that is good news. you don't want delays anywhere. >> we have to get to the airport two hours early. any further delays, it is a terrible experience, right. hats long as they are back to work today. no issues and that will be great. the faa was forcing 47,000 employees it to take one day off every other week which amounts to 10% cut in pay. it could have been worse. they believe a lot of travelers delayed their plans. and they were concerned about the furloughs. according to the faa staffing

levels should be back to normal and across the country by the end of the day today. we are live at sfo. alex savidge. ktvu news. people in california will feel the effect of the sequester. they will see their unemployment benefits cut 18% and that starts today. right now, the average federal unemployment payment in california is about $298 a week. that number is going to drop by $52 a week because of the cuts. the crash that sent six people in the hospital is being investigated. it happened at 9:00 on ocean befuee the northbound 280 on ramp. two people were rushed to the hospital. the other four had injuries that are not life threatening. a bomb threat has landed a man in jail. the suspect robbed the wells fargo bank yesterday afternoon.

it is cloudy yesterday. waking up with mostly cloudy skies. if you look really, really close, you can see the light shade of gray. and it is along the east bay and coast. parts of the peninsula is waking up partly cloudy. and still in san jose and they are mostly cloudy and it as cool start for you. one of the areas for you that is cooler by a few degrees. ridge of high pressure associated with the warm up also pinching down the marine layer and bringing it closer to the ground. and it is in santa rosa and two to 4 miles of visibility. i will be watching it for you throughout the morning hours. up to the low 50s. 49 in belmont and foster city. and palo alto. and sunnyvale, you are checking in. and it is a cool start still in some areas.

we will see a quick rebound. the pacific satellite view, ridge of high pressure, cloud formation over the east pacific showing just that. we have a weak system. we have seen this in recent weeks. it is going to clip us and bring breezy conditions. it looks like tuesday night into wednesday. we will have a weak on shore breeze in the afternoon. they will continue to climb. especially inland. that is for petaluma. and 83 for santa rosa. and warm and sunny. 72 in sausalito and for the east bay. 76 in oakland. if you see the as play, it is nice and warm for you. 89 for pleasanton and in the share valley. 83 san jose. and made 70s at the boardwalk in santa cruz. and san mateo, 69. and 69 in sacramento. if you are thinking about -- 69 in san francisco. and do expect the sea breeze.

. live look there over san francisco. there is fog still hanging on in the morning. sunny skies for the afternoon. this morning two italian police officers were shot and seriously wounded outside the prime minister's office in rome. the prime minister and his cabinet were being sworn in mile away. a woman passing by was slightly injuried. and the gunman is taken into custody. there are reports that he has a history of mental health issues and that the shootings may t no have been politically motivated. this morning, italy's interior minister called it a criminal gesture by an unemployeed man. we are learning more about

intelligence that was shared about the suspect in the boston marathon bombings: they secretly recorded a phone conversation where one of the suspects discussed jihad with his mother. another man is under investigation in another case and was also wiretapped. tamerlan tsarnaev were extremists. they say the mother was in daily contact with her son in the days before the bombing. the surviving suspect is being held in a medical detention center 40 miles outside the city. 19-year-old dzhokhar tsarnaev is moved friday to the hospital. he was being held in a cell with a solid steel door and observation window and slot for passing food and medication. teammates. richard martin, the youngest victim, they held a little league game in honor.

the parents took part in mile long parade. it ended at the baseball field. governor patrick was also present. there was a circle with martin and boston strong within a number 8, representing his age and little league number. here in the bay area, there will be a special fundraiser for the martinez boy injuried. aaron hearn is out of the hospital and under going treatment in boston. he is expected to be cleared to return home sometime this week. registration for the fundraising walk and run opens at 9:45 this morning. the actual event starts at 10:40. the same time the boston marathon started. it will be held had alhambra high school where martinez's father is a teacher and coach. they are also running in big sur. a moment of silence to honor the victims was held at the

start of the race. one person is running with a banner in memory of boston. the big sur is the first major marathon since the bombing. they should expect closures from caramel to big sur and there was a madrid marathon. 100 police and security officers patrolled the race with bomb-sniffing dogs. there were people praising the bombers and they were arrested. they do not believe they were planning an attack. a piece of plane wreckage discovered in new york was the same as the plane that hit the twin tours. it was discovered wednesday. it was wedged between the controversial mosque. and an apartment building. they will decide if they should sift the soil around the buildings for human remains. tomorrow, the final pieces of

the new world trade center is builngbe installed. the crane will hoist two parts to t on top of the buildings. it will make the building the tallest in the country at 1776 feet. one world trade center is scheduled to open sometime next year. four u.s. service members are killed in plane crash in southern afghanistan. bad weather was a factor in the province and not enmy fire. u.s. diplomat and several american see died earlier in the province. taliban is claiming responsible for deadly attacks in pakistan. and roadside bomb killed a police officer in eastern afghanistan. in pakistan, at least 11 people were killed and 30 others injuried as bombs were detonated at offices of two politicians. the violence is part of the new spring offensive and targeting government officials and afghanistan police. it shows many veterans are

still struggling to find work after leaving the military. the problem is greatest for the youngest generation of vets. the unemployment rate for those who serve after 9/11 is 9.2%. that compares to 7.6%, a national rate. some say they have difficulty communicating their skills to civilian employers. they are searching for new leadership after firing the superintendent and general counsel. the district is expected to finalize today and general counsel greg roland from the contracts on wednesday. the contra costa times report they have $1,000 in contract for translation services provided by his girlfriend without disclosing the relationship. board members say low employee morale and lack of trust were also factors. new survey is among the most well read cities in the

. four people are safe after being rescued from a fishing boat. what is left of the boat that caught fire near candlestick point. it was sparked by an engine leak. look at the pictures, you can see how badly it is burned. bringing this four to safety. the people were visibly shaken. >> i looked out the window and across the water i saw fake black smoke. i knew it was a boat on fire. >> one person was treated for smoke inhalation and the three people on board were not hurt. >> this was sparked by an unintended cooking fire at a

homeless camp. it broke out yesterday afternoon and burned out near the parkway and the chopper helped put out the flames from the air. firefighters said they were up against gusty wind. and no one was hurt while they were fighting the fire. >> this is ahead of what they think could be one of the worse wildfire seasons in years. >> fire officials are still hiring staff and moving air tankers to stations across the state. seasonal firefighters starting moving into the national forest. wildfires are already up by 45% this year. it had more than 180 wildfires in the state. which is 200 more than this time of year. >> we talked about it for a long time. now we talk about the heat. rosemary is watching that for us now. yes, today will be the warmest day of the weekend.

. a 9-year-old girl stabbed to death. this morning, the search continues for the person who did it. good morning, welcome back to "mornings on 2". >> the girl was killed near rancho cavelleros and the girl's 1-year-old brother was home at the time and called police. he saw a man running away and went to check on his sister and found that she was stabbed. she later died at the hospital. they are being told to stay in the homes and lock their doors as deputies continue their search. it is 7:31. air traffic could get back to normal after they ends the furloughs of the faa. how bay area airports are affected by the staffing

changes. alex? >> reporter: passengers i talked to are pleased that congress worked out a deal that would put the air traffic controllers back to work full time. i touched base with the duty manager here at sfo. he said the delays they are he seeing is between 15 to 30 minutes and it is due to runway construction and not faa saving levels. especially up in the control tower. faa began to furlough air traffic controllers at major airports and what that meant, planes were taking off and landing less often. they were the result of sequestration, the federal across the board sting cuts. the faa announced it was suspending all employee furloughs after congress rushed through a bill that allowed the department of transportation to shift around $250 million to get air traffic controllers

bulls. officers were responding to a call. they were on the road yesterday looking for a man wanted on suspicion of drugs and car theft. instead of finding him, they saw a woman and four pit bulls escaping out the front door. the pit bulls went right for the police dog. >> they did attack the dog and coming at the deputies. they are very aggressive at that point and the deputies fired in their defense. a neighbor shot this scene and one dog was shot in the paw and the others die. they are still looking for the wanted man. jury selection is in the case of the serial killer naso, he is accused of killing four women in yuba, marin, and contra costa county. he was representing himself. he said he was a self-employeed modeling photographerrer. he took pictures of them and

did not kill them. if convicted, he could face the death penalty. the man who is accused of sending letters laced with poise sob could be in court tomorrow. he surrendered at his mississippi home yesterday morning. he is charged with making and possessing the poison ricin and if convicted, he could face life in prison and $250 fine. six lawsuits are connected with the explosion at the fertilizer plant. one is from the family of a volunteer firemen. two insurance companies, a nursing home resident and a couple that lived near the plant filed suit. 14 people died and others were hurt earlier this month in the town of west, texas. strong police presence was on hand for the city today. they patrolled all 26 miles of

oakland unite prayed in front of the memorial. she was killed in front of her 4-year-old son last week. >> wives without husbands. and children without fathers and it keeps going on and on. there have been 32 homicides in oakland. both say when it comes to ending the violence, the focus should be on young people. they said they are incorporating feedback into the safety plans. yesterday, police chief howard jordan hosted the chavez education center and participants broke into groups on how the community and police work better together. this is a series of town hall meetings. >> oakland public work crews will fill more potholes. crews will work in a different neighborhood each week. they say the focus is going to be on roads near schools.

fatally stabbed. katie spoke with the coroner this morning and has more on the search for the killer. >> reporter: claudine, the coroner confirmed for us the young victim died of stab wounds but he couldn't say how many times she had been stabbed. he said she should be able to release her identity by this afternoon. the fatal stabbing happened in the rural community of rancho calaveras. many investigators remain on scene working the case overnight. they're trying to catch the young girl's killer. we're still working to reach them this morning. it all started yesterday when a 12-year-old boy discovered an intruder in his home on rapone road. a sacramento television station is reporting the boy called his parents, who then called 911. the man he ran into then took off, and that's when the boy made a terrifying discovery. his nine-year-old sister had been gravely stabbed. >> we're doing a house-to-house search, and in some cases, we're searching extensively into attics and storage sheds. >> deputies say the girl was

pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. we're still working to learn where the parents were at the time of the attack. again the boy did call them. meanwhile, multiple law enforcement agencies searched the rural area overnight and into this morning. the landscape includes steep hills, tall grass, and many places to hide, like outbuildings and horse stables. deputies asked homeowners to lock doors and be on the look out for the man considered armed and dangerous. >> it's just terrible. i don't know. you know, what can i say about it? it's a tragedy. >> now, the young boy describes if intruder as a white or latino man with longer gray hair. around 6 feet tall with a muscular build and was last seen wearing a black long sleeved shirt and blue pants. the coroner's office told me an autopsy for the victim is scheduled for monday, and we will work to continue to reach those investigators on scene this morning. live in the newsroom, katie udhes, ktvu channel 2 news. police in pittsburg have a

sketch of the man they say tried to kidnap a two-year-old girl. look at this. he is a white man in his 30s with blond hair. he was last seen wearing a green shirt and blue jeans. investigators say the man took the girl as she played in the front yard of her home on rain drop circle just after 1 p.m. on friday afternoon. they say he got 50 feet from the house but then dropped the girl in some bushes after her mother yelled after him. the girl was not hurt. there is good news for passengers in air traffic controllers. the f.a.a. says air traffic controllers of air traffic control towers will return to normal levels by tonight. the announcement comes after congress passed legislation allowing the f.a.a. to cut costs without the furloughs. >> none of us should be in this position at this point in time. and it's a larger problem than just a band-aid that they're trying to fix right now. >> at least three air traffic controllers a day were furloughed last week at sfo and in oakland there were at least two furloughs a day in san

jose. hundreds of thousands of unemployed people in california will feel the effect of the sequester this week. close to 400,000 californians will see their extended unemployment benefits cut almost 18%, starting today. right now, the average federal unemployment payment in california is about $298 a week, but that number will drop by $52 a week, because of the cuts. the sequester also having an effect on the coast guard. funds cuts have forced the coast guard to suspend routine patrols of potential terror tactors like the golden gate bridge and the bay bridge. paroles of the transbay tube have also been suspended. >>this morning there will be a special fund-raiser for the 11- year-old martinez boy injured in the boston marathon bombing. aaron hern is out of the hospital but undergoing treatments in boston. he is expected to be cleared to return home sometime this week. now, registration for a fund- raising run and walk opens at 9:45 this morning in martinez. the actual event doesn't start

until 10:40. that is the same time the boston marathon started. the event will be held at al hambra high school in martinez where aaron's father is a teand coach. in 40 minutes we'll go live to martinez for more on today's event. happening now, about 400 runners who took part in the boston marathon are also running in big sur. there was a moment of silence to honor the victims of the boston attacks before that start of the race was held. one person is also running that race holding a banner memory of boston. the big sur marathon is the first major marathon in california since the boston bombings. and drivers should expect road closures all along highway 1 from carmel to big sur. and we're learning more this morning about intelligence that was shared about a suspect in the boston marathon bombings. russian authorities say they secretly recorded a phone conversation back in 2011 where one of the suspects discussed jihad with his mother. a second phone call between the suspect's mother and a man under investigation in a separate case was also wire

tapped. russian authorities told the f.b.i. that tamerlan tsarnaev and his mother were religious extremists but did not hand over the wire tap. investigators cesar naf's mother was in almost daily contact with her son in the days before the bombing. now the surviving suspect in the boston bombings is being held in a medical detention center 40 miles outside of the city. 19-year-old dzhokhar tsarnaev was moved to that facility on friday, moved from the hospital where he was previously being held. authorities cesar naf is say -- say tsarnaev is being held in a cell with a door and a slot for food and medication. six victims remain in the hospital after the bombing. officials say all patients who are still hospitalized are in good or fair condition. in all, 26 hospitals treated patients with injuries from the bombing. playoff fever continues in oakland tonight. if warriors take on the nuggets in game 4. in the first round of the playoffs. the warriors up 2 games to 1

welcome back from san francisco. a bit of a foggy shot. looking towards mount diablo. a summer like pattern in place. 60s at the coast, 70s around the bay. 80s inland. well, new this morning, a lane on 238 in san leandro has reopened after at least three cars hit a tree that was down in the roadway overnight. the c.h.p. says the tree landed in the fast lane early this morning. the road reopened about an hour ago after that tree was moved and no one was hurt. new this morning, an italian prosecutor is now saying that politicians were the intended target of a gunman who shot two blisters outside the premier's office in rome. [ sirens ] >> the shooting happened just as italy's new premier and his ministers were being sworn in a mile away. a woman passion by was also slightly injured. the gunman has been taken into custody this morning. italy's interior minister called the shooting quote a

tragic criminal gesture by an unemployed man. rome's prosecutor told reporters that the suspect is, quote, questioned to everything. one person died and 15 people were injured in a house fire in boston earlier this rning. it happened a neighborhood very popular wicollege students. firefighters say 17 people lived inside that house. many of them had to be rescued from the top floor. among the injured are six firefighters but their injuries are not considered serious. investigators say they will be looking at why the house was so overcrowded. four u.s. service members have been killed in a plane crash in southern afghanistan. investigators say it appears bad weather was a factor in the crash in kabul, and not enemy fire. a u.s. diplomat and several other americans also died in a bombing earlier this month in the zabul propose. the taliban is claiming responsibility for deadly attacks in afghanistan and pakistan. this morning a roadside bomb killed three police officers in eastern afghanistan, and in pakistan, at least 11 people were killed and 30 others

injured when bombs were detonated at the campaign offices of two politicians. the taliban says the violence is part of its new spring offensive targeting foreign bases, government officials, and afghan police. a shocking discovery in new york after debris from one of the highjacked planes involved in the 9/11 terror attacks is found nearly a decade later. lydia serona is in new york this morning where the wreckage has sparked homes for victims' families. >> reporter: a building inspector discovered the five foot long piece wedged in between two buildings right here behind me. you can see a police officer guarding this area, treating it as a crime scene. ground zero is just about 2 and a half blocks away from here, and of course the discovery is bringing up a lot of emotions, as well as a lot of questions. people are asking why wasn't it discovered sooner, how did it get there, and what else is back there. this rusted wreckage now confirmed to be from a bowing 767. the plane, one of the highjacked in the 9/11 terror attacks. this area now being treated as

examiner will be here tuesday morning, sifting for human remains. for now, that's the latest here near ground zero. tomorrow, the final pieces of the new world trade center building will be installed. a crane will hoist two sections of a spire to sit on top of the building. when the sections are in place it will make the building the tallest in the country at 1776 feet. 1 world trade center is scheduled to open next year. four people are safe this morning after being rescued from a burning fishes boat in south san francisco. the boat caught fire yesterday morning near candlestick point. police say it was sparked by an engine leak. you can see here how badly that boat was burned. a police boat rushed to the rescue, bringing the four to safety. a witness said the people on the boat were visibly shaken. >> i looked out the window and across the water i saw thick black smoke coming from the water. i knew it was a boat on fire. >> one person was treated for smoke inhalation. the other three on border with

cal fire continues to build its forces ahead of what they think could be one of the world wildfire seasons in years. fire officials are hiring staff and getting resources into place by moving air tankers to stations across the state. this weekend, seasonal firefighters also started moving into the angeles national forest. cal fire says wildfires are already up by 45% this year. it says its battled more than 680 wildfires in the state, which is 200 more than the average for this time of year. san jose firefighters say a grass fire on communications hill was sparked by an unintended cooking fire at a homeless kamp. the fire department quited these pictures of the -- tweeted these pictures of the fire that broke out yesterday afternoon. this was all near guadalupe parkway and kurtner avenue intersection. cal fire chopper helped put out the flames from the air. firefighters say they were up against some gusty winds but fortunately no one was hurt. rosemary, how are we looking this sunday morning?

in the rancho calaveras area, about 60 miles southeast of sacramento, and the suspect is still on the loose, katie udhes has been tracking this story all morning. what's the latest? >> deputies have been searching for the suspected stabber and home intruder for nearly 20 hours now. they say it's very much an active search. i also spoke with the coroner this morning, who says he plans to release the young victim's identity this afternoon. the fatal stabbing happened in the rural community of rancho calaveras, nearly 30 miles northeast of stockton. many of the investigators remain on scene this morning, working the case overnight. and it all started yesterday when a 12-year-old boy discovered an intruder in his home on rapone road. a sacramento t.v. station is reporting that's when the boy called his parents, who called 911. the man ran away and the boy made a terrifying discovery. his nine-year-old sister had been gravely stabbed. >> we're doing a house-to-house search, and in some cases,

we're searching, you know, extensively into attics and storage sheds. >> deputies say the girl was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. we're still working to learn where the parents were at the time of the attack, but that young boy did call his parents. meanwhile, multiple law enforcement agencies searched the rural area overnight and into this morning. the landscape includes steep hills, tall grass, and many places to hide, like outbuildings and horse stables. deputies asked homeowners to lock doors and be on the look outfor the man considered armed and dangerous. >> it's just terrible. i don't know. you know, what can i say about it? it's a tragedy. >> the young boy describes the intruder as a white or latino man with longer gray hair. he's around 6 feet tall with a muscular build and was last seen wearing a black long- sleeved shirt and blue pants. the coroner tells me an autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, but we should have the latest and learn the victim's identity by this afternoon, and our news

earlier this morning. all nipon had just started service to japan when the planes were grounded. a bank robbery and bomb threat in marin county has landed a man in jail. police say their suspect robbed the wells fargo bank yesterday afternoon along sir francis drake boulevard. while leaving he reportedly told bank employees he had left a bag of plastic explosives in the building. a ktvu employee happened to be nearby and took this video of the scene after police evacuated and secured that area. a bomb squad from berkeley was brought in to search the bank. nothing was found. the man was arrested a few blocks away from the scene. an investigation is under way into the shooting deaths of three pit bulls who were shot by sheriff deputies responded to a call in san lorenzo. sheriff deputies and their k9 deputy went to a home yesterday looking for a man wanted on suspicion of drugs and car theft. instead of finding him, deputies say they saw a woman and four pit bulls escaping out the front door. they say the pit bulls went right for their police dog.

>> they did attack the dog and they were coming at the deputies, they were very aggressive at that point, so the deputies fired in their defense. >> a neighbor shot this video of the scene right after the shooting. one dog was shot in a paw and survived. the others died. sheriff deputies are looking for the wanted man. jury selection is expected to begin tomorrow in the trial of accused serial killer joseph naso. the 79-year-old is accused of killing four women in yuba, marin and contra costa counties between 1994 and 1997. naso has been representing himself at these earlier hearings. he says he was a self-employed modeling photographer and says he took pictures of the women but didn't kill them. he could phase the death penalty if convicted. man accused of sending ricin laced letters to president obama and two other public officials is expected to appear in a u.s. district court tomorrow. 41-year-old james everett dutschke surrendered at his mississippi home early yesterday morning. he is charged with making and

possessing the poison ricin and if convicted dutschke could face life in prison and a $250 fine. six lawsuits have been filed in connection with the deadly explosion at the texas fertilizer plant. one lawsuit filed by the family of a volunteer firefighter killed in the explosion. a man who was blinded, two insurance companies, a nursing home resident and a couple who live near the plant have also filed suit. 14 people died and more than 200 others were hurt in the explosion earlier this month. n. the town of west, texas. the manager and a director of walnut trek's lesser center for the arts are asking to return to work. the times reports the two were put on leave for allegedly failing to report child sex abuse. former lesher center employ jason pedroza was arrested on a series of sex abuse charges. attorneys say since the d.a.'s office decided not to press charges against their clients they should have their jobs

back lawmakers are considering a statewide ban on lead bullets for hunting. if approved california would be the first state to impose such a ban. animal rights groups say lead is one of the biggest dangers facing california condors in the wild. the n.r.a. says the plan could lead to gun control expensed hunting in california. hunting with lead bullets is already banned in eight counties with endangered california condors. oakland public works crews will fill more than 3000 potholes during an effort that kicks off tomorrow. crews are going to work in different neighborhoods each week starting with the claremont avenue neighborhood. officials say the focus will be on roads near schools, hospitals and high pedestrian areas. crews filled 2800 potholes during a similar effort last year. president obama poked fun at himself and the press during the annual white house correspondence dinner. >> i understand second term, need a burst of new energy. try some new things. and then my team and i talked about it. we're willing to try everything so we borrowed one of

outside, and it is a pretty day in many areas. 55 napa, 55 in concord, already low 60s out the door in walnut creek, 64 in antioch. southern portions of the bay, from about hayward down into san jose, and then along the peninsula from about san mateo into san jose, mostly gray, just in the last hour but you can see the clouds are thinning out, returning mostly sunny in most cases. 59 in belmont, 55 palo alto right now, 53 los altos hills. here is a look at what you can expect for opening day on the bay. i expect the afternoon sea breeze which means if you don't get to the city of san francisco very often, it could be chilly in the afternoon if that wind kicks in, and i do expect at least a 10 to 15 mile per hour breeze. for the afternoon, temperatures will warm into the low 60s by 1:00, and then upper 60s in time for the second half of the day. i believe the boat parade is between noon and 3. forecasted highs around the region, if you're in napa today, 84 expected for you which is actually a new record,

onshore breeze looks like wednesday. and 74 degrees expected at the coast. slightly cooler on thursday. inland it's going to warm up and we'll stick with that warm- up. upper 80s to low 90s. monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday could be the hottest days. i'll have a look at lunchtime numbers coming up. parts of the south and midwest are being hit with severe flooding. look at what it looks like in harris county, texas. this was the video taken yesterday, where several cars struggled to get through flooded streets. even buss and trains were struggling so much they had to be put out of service because of that storm. in another part of texas the storm caused that building to collapse at the good mart at a gas station. police say large amounts of water collected on the roof of that food mart, and then it just gave way yesterday. the store's owners were actually inside and heard the roof start to collapse. and they say it took about three minutes for the whole thing to come down. fortunate lee, no one was hurt. and in fargo, north dakota people are preparing again for possible record flooding.

sharing with you a beautiful view into the north bay, the golden gate bridge, blue skies, a little bit of fog out there. going to be a great day. >> six months after superstorm sandy battered the east coast, crews are still working to bring the subway train system back to normal. one of the hardest hit stations was the south ferry subway in lower manhattan. transit officials say every part of the station needs to be replaced. the flood water corroded several pieces of important equipment and destroyed the entire electrical system. so far, the transit agency has received more than $1 billion in federal funding. one of the beach towns hit hardest by superstorm sandy will get part of its board walk back in time for the summer season. ground breaking on the project started yesterday in long beach, new york. the wooden board walk was

damaged by sandy and had to be ripped out. the entire board walk won't be finished until november but some sections are expected to open in the coming weeks. replacing it will cost $44 million. tomorrow family and friends mark the first anniversary of an unsolved killing in oakland. on april 29th of last year, brandy martell was shot and killed while sitting in her car on 13th street. friends say martell was a trans gender woman. and tomorrow's vigil is meant to call attention to continued violence against the trans gender community. her family is also hoping it will remind people about the case and will convince anyone with information to come forward. a group of people fed up with violence in oakland are calling for peace. >> we want some peace! >> in the streets! >> the group is called soldiers against violence everywhere. and it held a rally at 20th and telegraph yesterday. it was in honor of 18-year-old kionte campbell, shot to death at a first friday event in february a group prayed in front of

a memorial for 21-year-old demetra henderson who was killed in front of her four- year-old son last week. >> wives without husband, 13 without fathers, mothers wit soit goes on and on. >> there have been 32 homicides in oakland this year. both organizations say when it comes to ending the violence, the focus should be on young people. oakland police say they are incorporating feedback from the community into their public safety plans. yesterday, police chief howard jordan hosted a town hall meeting at the cesar chavez education center on international boulevard. participants broke into groups to offer ideas on how the community and police can work together. this is the fifth in a series of town hall meetings, next month's meeting will be specific for for the youth business owners in san jose may sue over delays in building a new ballpark for the a's. the news reports the san jose mayor is exploring the possibility of suing the giants or major league baseball. the giants have opposed the a's plans to build a ballpark in

and we are following breaking news out of bangladesh right now, where we're learning that a fire has broken out at the collapsed building that killed hundreds of people. we don't know at this point how widespread that fire is, but we know search efforts have been continuing, so we'll continue to follow that. this morning we also learned about another arrest in that garment factory collapse investigation. the government says soldiers captured the owner of the building near the border with india. he has been in hiding since that building collapsed on wednesday. three garment factory owners have also been arrested. time now 9:52. here are some of the other top stories we are following this morning. a manhunt is under way in calaveras county after deputies say a nine-year-old girl was stabbed to death inside her own home. investigators say the girl's 12- year-old brother was home at the time, and called police. people who live in the area are

the family of aaron hearn, obviously quite a bit to pay for in terms of medical expenses after he suffered those injuries during the bombings at the boston marathon. the run and walk to benefit the boy's family begins at 10:40 this morning. so it will be getting under way shortly here again at al ham bra high school in martinez. live in martinez, alex savidge. ktvu. and happening now, runners are honoring the victims of the boston marathon bombings at the oklahoma city marathon. [ horn ] >> six of the runners at tonight's event were in boston when the bombings happened and were not able to finish the race. the oklahoma city marathon commemorates the 1995 bombing of the alfred p. murrow federal building. it is the largest fund-raising event for a memorial honoring the bombing victims. mountain view firefighters took in close to 200 pounds of prescription drugs during a national drug take-back day. similar events were held across the bay area. annual collection allows people
